Tonal Drawings

After few weeks in my first semester at college, we were taught tonal drawings. This was the first time that I was introduced to tonal drawings as I never drew before entering design school. This is where I learnt that tone in art refers to the lightness or darkness of an area. The tone of an object depends on its actual surface lightness or darkness, color & texture and background lighting. For this module we were asked to choose an image which was conceptually related to our portfolio, then on we used pencils ranging from 6H (lightest) to 6B (darkest) to get tone into the drawing. Finally for finishing touches we used charcoal to the darkest areas of the drawing.
