As a part of our foundation program at college, we were taken on a study tour to the Geoffrey Bawa’s house in Lunuganga, Located in Bentota Sri Lanka, it is about an one and half hour drive from Colombo. Geoffrey Bawa is one of Sri Lanka’s renowned architect and Lunuganga estate is considered as his country home. Bawa purchased this land in 1948, and at that time there was nothing but a bungalow surrounded by a large rubber plantation. Since then Bawa started implementing new design ideas by moving, adding and cutting but still keeping the original bungalow. This is known to be as his experimental laboratory. At present the estate runs as a hotel and is open to public.
Following is a presentation board I made on Lunuganga Estate using pictures captured during the visit.
